Singer Dikiş Makineleri Dünyası, 1892, Reklam Kampanyası
1890’lı yıllarda Singer dikiş makinesi şirketi, yeni bir tür reklam kampanyası başlattı. Reklamin amacı, Singer dikiş makinelerinin dünyanın her yerinde nasıl kullanıldığını göstermekti.. 1890’larda, renkli taşbasma (chromolithographic) “ticari kartlar” alışagelmiş olarak promosyon-hediye olarak dağıtılanlar içinde Singer’ın kartları en iddialı olanlardan biriydi.. Kartlarından bazıları sadece ikonik makineyi veya “S” logosunu gösterirken, diğerleri müşterilerine adeta bir dünya turuna kattı.. Uluslararası serideki ürün yerleştirme hakkında konuşursak, Singer makineleri dört köşesindeki – makinenin Zelig’i – en büyük (ve Batı) ilerlemesini ve uygarlığını temsil ediyor.. Bu kampanyada ki her bir kart, geleneksel kıyafetler giymiş ve Singer dikiş makineleriyle poz veren farklı bir ülkeden insanların görüntülerini içermektedir.. Taşbasma bu kartlar, zengin renk ve yüksek detaylar ile bu görüntüleri kalıcı olarak kayıt ederken aynı zamanda tüketimi ve sanayileşmeyi özendirmenin yanı sıra kartlara eşlik eden metinler ile ırk, etnisite üzerine ve çağdaş söylemler hakkında bilgi sağlar.. In the 1890s Singer sewing machine Company embarked upon a brand new type of advertising campaign.. The idea was to show how Singer sewing machines were used all around the world.. During the 1890s, when chromolithographic “trade cards” were the customary promotional giveaway, Singer’s cards were among the most ambitious.. Some of their cards simply showed the iconic machine or the “S” logo, while others took customers on a tour of the world.. If we talk about product placement in the international series, Singer machines are found in the four corners—the Zelig of machinery—representing progress and civilization at its most grand (and Western).. Each card features people from a different country dressed in traditional clothing and posing with Singer sewing machines.. The rich color and high level of detail in the chromolithographs make these images enduringly engaging while the accompanying text provides insight into contemporary discourses on race, ethnicity, consumerism and industrialization..
